My cousin and I recently (Within about a month) have purchased 3 veiled chameleons 2 female and 1 male from an exotic pets pet store the first week we had just one female (which we suspect is abut 3 months old, but we are unsure as we are new to this) and the a week later we got the second female and a week later we got the male. Within the first week the first female would on occasion bulge her eyes out a little bit and the retrac the bulge but it happened very rarely and didnt seem to affect her in any way upaon calling the store we purchased them from they were unsure and said it was probably stress related. when we got the second one the first one stopped doing it, however the second started to do it too and it seemed to irritate her as she would sometimes rub it against wood or possibly a finger she did that a couple of days before we got the male and continues to do so now. The male has not had this problem at all so i am wondering if i should be concerned about this or not i have tried to look up information but most of it has been unreliable the closest thing i saw was something about a form of MBD... but she has a good grip and she looks beautiful... would put up some pictures but comp is being retarded at the moment and also our second female and male are a bit smaller/younger thant the first female and the female has really good grip and coordination but the male doesnt he uses his tail and can coordinate but sometimes he keeps walking ona branch or something without realizing there is no more branch :( and his grip isnt the greatest should i be concerned??

well first calm down no reason to get worked up, if shes rubbing her eye on things shes probably just cleaning it spray her gently to see if the water helps them, moving their eyes in and out is another way of cleaning too.

what you need to watch for is when their eyes are sunken in, and you can tell drastically when they are sunken in.

thanks well i was pretty sure it wasnt so bad since the other female was fine :D but lol cause im the nosy and inquisitive type what does it mean if they are sunken??

very bad, almost to the point of dieing, um it could also mean dehydration, but to put it in easy terms if you see this you NEED to take some sort of action

What kind of lighting are you using for basking and UVB. The incorrect lighting can effect their eyes.

agree but i dont think the rubbing part would be an effect of the light, i think stay down low to ground would be..

I know, but I thought it might be a good idea just to check and make sure the lighting is right. They were bought from a pet store and even though it was an exotic pet store....the one by me the poor little veiled had its eyes closed during the day and the guy told me he was fine! Alot of these places give out the wrong info to the customers.

Ive already witnessed stuff like this going on at local petsmarts and petco, humidity will be off by 10's of percent, and most of the time they have water bowls, i asked one time how do they drink water, and they said out the water bowl, i couldnt help but laugh

i work at pets mart ....its policy that we have water bowls ....but none of the reptiles besides snakes drink out of them thats why i mist them 4-5 times a day ....but i knw before i worked there i laughed to but i had to work there so i knw the reptiles and esp chams will be in good hands

well shit your the only one i know so far that works there and knows his shit, i have a few petsmart/petco in my are and yea not good, couldnt help and notice how small those cages are too.

i have a reptisun 5.0 and one of the automatic mister setups away from home right now so i cant check the name but theres plenty of water in fact theres a slight layer of water on the bottom and we mist the fake tree we have in there about 2-3 times for a water source... so idk thats why its kinda concerned me... the other two are just fine too and they are in the same cage... its only her thats doing it

you dont have a real tree in the cage??? and you need to invest in a dripper this is extremly important to raising a cham sucessfully

oh and it wasnt a big company like petco or petsmart its a little place specializing in reptiles its called scales and tails dont know if they are in other states but they have mostly reptiles lots of chameleons and other exotic pets...

we have a dripper just gotta get a new hose and we had a real tree but they kept climbing to the top and they wouldnt eat the crickets

haha yea i know people that put water bowls in their cages, its all good just make sure your spray enough till you get a dripper. All good simple mistake.

Id put the real tree back they would appreciate it, and the humidifer isnt needed if youspray like your supposed to.
