After the morning mist, my wife noticed Yoshi acting strangely wiping his eye on a branch, there was fluid coming out and it’s really swollen, but he has not moved from his branch all morning, there is no foreign object possibility, so I ask could he have gotten water into his eye area or something??

Chameleon - Jackson’s Xanthos
Age — Approx 4-6 months
Time in my care - 5 days
Medical history - Unestablished
Vet - Located, but not registered YET
My area - Eastern Shore Maryland, USA

Maybe a piece of his shedding skin came loose and the water pulled it into his eye?

Yes he’s keeping it closed. But now it’s returned to a much normal look. It was the fact that it was bulging and purple and now he’s sleeping. On his sleeping branch. During the day.

He’s going to the vet in a few hours, I don’t want to chance anything.

(Edit) Not sleeping, but def not normal either. He doesn’t lay typically. He runs all over his enclosure climbing everything non stop up the branches down the branches.

Make sure it is a vet that actually knows how to treat chameleons. Often Vets that do not know can actually cause more harm then good.

If you have not gotten a husbandry review I would do that. Jacksons have very specific supplementation and temps needed. Depending on where you got this little one there could be an issue of parasites. I would take in a fecal to be tested when he passes one.

He’s actually got two appts. One today and another vet for comparative visits tomorrow. I am going to compare their knowledge to what is unanimous here and if he seems like a crock I won’t go.

The Herp Vet said the same thing as @Beman , that he was simply cleaning his eye and I should avoid mist spraying him directly in the future. @kinyonga, no he seems fine now. Both eyes open, drinking in the morning and evening, eating at 9 am 5-8 crickets.

I cannot however locate any of his urate. I see brown nuggets of feces (I got them out), but I'm looking for this white urate everyone describes seeing. I just can't find it. TBH today is the first time I've seen the brown nugs in there. (Sorry for the very layman non professional terminology, it's early and I spend most mornings conversing with 5 yr olds.
