Eye and mouth

Hi can anyone tell me why my chameleons mouth is slightly open like this, and at the sides his lips seem to be a bit loser than normal.
Also I have been to the vet recently for a vitamin A deficiency and I asked him about the barnacle thing on his eye and he has one on his back, but the vet said not to worry about it, he does keep closing this eye for a few minutes at a time.

I would text ferritinmyshoes and ask her about the eye "barnacle". Often the lips being like that can be an indication of a calcium imbalance. What supplements do you use and how often for each?

I agree with Kinyonga. The eye encrustation concerns me. Also the slight parting of the mouth like that can be sign of MBD, which softens bones. I would recommend a trip the vet for a check up and bloodwork to look at calcium levels. His elbows don't look soft, but if he is not closing the front of his mouth, there is obviously an issue. Have you looked at the gum tissue to make sure that it is not swollen or discolored?

In the meantime, can you fill this out? The more information you can give us, the more we can help you.

I opened his mouth and it does look more yellow than I've seen before and more salvia than before
He had an x Ray just over a month ago, and was clear for MBD the vet said fine for his age and a chameleon, it couldn't have come on that early could,it, I have been giving him calcium in his drinking water, because he wasn't eating much

He is a panther chameleon, age 3 1/2 years old, I've had him since sept 14.
He is handled generally every day if he wants to come out and go on his free range and we usually have some excercise early evening, when my house is quieter.
My supplements have changed a great deal lately as he has not eaten for two months due to a vitamin A defeieicny, which he was receiving weekly multivit injections at the vet and having 1ml of critical care each day.
I also was giving him reptoboost each day and liquid calcium in his water.
I mist his cage twice a day and he drinks from a sports bottle.
His fecal ob has not been good lately as he has not been eating, it's been very jelly like.
He has a wooden tall viv, think its 3 1/2 foot vivexotic with extra vents I have put in it, he does spend a lot of time on his free range tree which has a compact uv bulb and heat lamp.
His basking,spot is 90 then 80 ambient, I use a 60 w bulb and a reptisun 5 in his cage.
I only use fake plants but manage to keep the humidity at around 60/70 most of the day
I'm in the UK and it's pretty cold at the moment, so no chance of going outside
I usually dust prey every feed with calcium
Using reptivite twice a month with d3
I've just ordered some sticky tongue miner all

How was it determined that he had a vitamin A deficiency?

Not sure that was what the vet diagnosed, he is a reptile vet (just Incase you ask) as I know lots of ppl see normal vets for their chameleons
He did start to,perk up and eat again, just like the vet said he would but now a week later this is happening, I am going to go back, but i really want other expert opinions first, as the vet said not to worry about the barnacle, oh and also he has one on his side, smaller.

Were you giving him the reptivite all along or did you change to it recently?
Been giving it right from the start, to be honest, I don't think the previous owner was using any vitamins, as I asked her what was she using and she said calcium and that's all she gave me, so I bought some reptivite.
I have been told by a breeder local to me that the vitamin a and some other vitamins in supplements are unstable after 2 months of opening, I have been using the same pot since September

Looking at his forearm bones, he really looks like he either has or had has MBD. Did the mouth just start doing this? Could he be holding it open to breathe (upper respiratory infection)? Excess saliva is a symptom of an RI.
