Exo-Terra Dual Top Halogen Basking Temps?

Hi Guy's

Thinking of getting an Exo Terra dual top to go on top of a future reptibreeze cage, but was wondering if anyone has used these before, and if so, What basking temps can you get with the 35w halogen?

thanks, but the top i want has both fluorescents and halogen spots. and its the halogen spots id like info on. I have been debating what lights etc to get and the dual top looks like it might tick all the boxes if the halogens give off enough heat for basking for a veiled.

I have a dual top, sat on top of a reptibreeze like you are thinking of getting, and get about 78 - 85f depending on room temp, i also have it on a dimmer so if it gets too warm i can turn it down.
Basking is about 8 or 9 inches from it.

I was wondering if anyone else actually used them, glad to see someone is. Do you use both the halogen spots in the canopy or just 1? Also are you using 35 or the new 50w halogen bulbs?

The dual tops we have over here in Britain, I think, only have 1 power cord to power the tubes and the spots, does yours have 2? I know old pictures of the dual tops have 2 cords on them and wondered if you could hook dual tops with only 1 cord to a stat?

You have any pics of your set up by any chance? Would love to one set up the same way I imagine mine! Pretty please? Lol

On the Cage i have at the moment, its just an 18" Dual Top, and there is only One Place for a Halogen Bulb, not Two like the 24". Its a 35w Bulb i use. It has 2 Power Cords, one for the Haligen, and one for Both Tubes.

That was taken before i got my Chameleon, i don't have any recent pics of the cage like that. I have removed the Dome Light as i didn't feel it was needed, and the dripper doesn't sit on top of the Dual Top, as it would just boil the water lol

nice set up!

im in two minds as whether to order one or not, im sure the new models only have one power cord and it concerns me that i might not be able to use a stat with it.

How old is the light unit you have? Sorry for all the questions, but you seem to be the only other person who has their setup the way I want mine.

I wouldn't use spots you are asking for a problem. Use halogen floods you will get a wider area of heat and not the intense spot that can burn really bad.

roger that , be sure and get the wide angle floods, whatever wattage you use, and double check your temps at the top of the cage, even a 15watt GU-10 (bi-pin) flood halogen may be too hot at 8-10", so you may have no choice but to dim, that is why i prefer seperate fixtures. jmo

GU-10 turn & lock bipin halogens

dual top canopy can only hold 35 watt halogen bulbs
yes exo-terra only makes one 35watt GU-10 (turn & lock bipin), but to be clear, its MAX rating is 35 watts, but any brand GU-10 (turn & lock bipin) halogen with a 2" diameter 35 watts or under, could be used. zilla makes two different 25 watt GU-10 that could be used, and household GU-10 (turn & lock bipin) halogens down to 10 watts are commonly available. so a person is not necessarily limited to just 35 watters. jmo

This is the Halogen i'm using, are you saying it's bad ?? Temps seem right, throughout the cage

I'm changing cages in the next couple of weeks to a bigger cage, and ditching this setup anyway, but you got me worried.

My guy is on a hunger strike, has been for the past few days, but he's also just started shedding

I'm also in the UK and I used to use the 35w halogen 'Sun Glo' bulbs for Lily - they are so expensive! I was told that any brand could be used (as long as I kept to 35w) but I tried others and the temps were way too hot even with a lower wattage. I only use the Exo Terra dual top for the UV bulbs now - I have a separate desk lamp which gives Amy a hottest temp of 80-81 depending on room temps. There is no way to adjust the distance from basking spot with those 'tops' though which concerns me - you have to rearrange the branches/vines rather than move the bulb.

If I was to start again with a new cage I would definitely go down the separate UV and heat source route. Also, I am on my third 'top' unit - the plastic kept splitting due to the heat- luckily the store was happy to exchange the unit!
