Hi Guys, I need some advice. I took Asmar and my other chams outside Sunday for fresh air and sunshine. Well, Asmar decided to make a break for it. I searched everywhere trying to find him. It was nice Sunday, but the temps here in Georgia the last few days have been in the 90's ( he's a Melleri). I was afraid he was a goner. Well, about 15 minutes ago I saw him in a large tree in my backyard. I ran and got the hose and hosed the limb down that he was on so he could get a drink, then ran around to the shed to get my ladder. When I got back to the tree, I could not see him anymore. UGGGGG. I have looked at that tree until my neck is hurting. Anyone have any ideas of how I might get him to come down. I have tried putting the cricket cage in the tree and I don't have a female - any more suggestions. In the meantime I will continue to water the tree down for him and pray he stays in it.

You know he probably sees you laughing at you the whole time. :p Is this tree in contact with other trees where he can make an escape?

Suggestion....

My suggestion is to hire a tree trimming expert to come out and climb the tree for a rescue. It will cost just to get them out there for 1/2 hour. But they have the equipment to climb trees safely. You can't watch your Melleri 24 hours a day. He/she can disappear elsewhere when you are not watching. Or some crows can do something bad to him/her. I would seriously consider doing this.

Ar there any kids around that will climb in the tree for you?? if not go with what paradisegirl said and get a tree trimmer to come out for you

Yes, I know he is laughing it up big time!!!! There are no other trees around and this one is pretty large (Sawtooth Oak). I will continue to spray the tree down every few hours and continue to eyeball the tree for him.

He is around...i wouldnt want to pay anything for a tree climber...get a ladder yourself...a ten foot ladder would prolly cost less than hiring someone to climb...

Just make sure you have someone to hold the ladder...

Or...do what the Hawaiins do and get a long stick... and hoax him onto it..

Can't see him yet?

The problem is that she is saying she can't see him. It's a tree so big that she can't visually see him. The tree is so large it's not something you can hold a stick up to for him to be coaxed onto. It sounds bigger than a simple ladder too. My concern is overnight if you don't get him today. Or hungry birds......

If it is a REALLY big tree I can't imagine there aren't large branches to climb around on. If you can at least get into the lower parts of the tree you might be able to see him... When you saw him last what was he doing? was it high? He will most likely find a part of the tree he likes and stay in the general area...

Maybe call the fire dept. and say you cat is stuck in the tree.... they handle that sort of thing right? :p

The problem here is that I am in a Very Small town. The fire department would laugh at me. I would have to call a larger city to get a tree service. When I saw him, he was on a lower branch and I would have been able to get him with the ladder. I just can't figure out how he disappeared out of my sight that fast???? At least I know that he is in the tree and has probably been there since Sunday - I will continue to check and water the tree daily until he has been apprehended.

I'll bet he hangs out low because of the heat.

if you live in a small town your chancesif getting the fireman over are prolly better then a large city fire dept. Small towns don't have as much stuff going on so messing around in a tree will kill some time I am sure.

The good times to look for chams are at night when they are asleep. get a very bright flashlight.

Edit: also promise them a baked cake or cookies and milk... LOL

Listen, if firemen can save ducklings out of a drainage ditch (and make the news doing it), then they'll help you with your cham. Give them a call.

Any word? Day one. Do Melleri turn yellow, or have night time coloration? Might be easier to spot him at night.

Lenny becomes very green with yellow bars. And Henry gets very green with a hint of blue.

Hereis Lenny sleeping. I took this the other night because she keeps trying to roost on these two small ass branches that are right under her heat lamp.... You can see her gut hanging down between the Vine she normally sleeps on and the two small branches she is clinging onto :D
