enclosure rebuild...

Ok i rearranged the enclosure, redid all vines, and got rid of the two pothos plants, one dead, one i was able to rescue, from over watering obviously, the one i threw out was 9 months old, got it when i got the cham.

She has always used the fake vines in the upper right for basking as seen in the picture of her, sorry that is the best picture i can get of her without handling her. I chose not to drop the lights or raise the tree instead ill just add vines to the upper left..

anyway $30 to $40 in vines unless i can think up somehting cheaper and ill be done.... its came a long way thats for sure, and it gets made simpler to mess with each time.

its crazy to i handled her yesterday when i redid it all, and shes massive, so yes its a huge enclosure, hahahaha... yes i love weapons

I cant find those around here. I went to every walmart in town (there are 3 of them) to find just a large branchy palm and they have nothing big..Picked up 2 pothos though.. There is only one nursery in town and they charge 3x's the amount Lowes does!! Ugh..Does she play in the tree at all?

I still think the best and cheapest is to raise the tree. Look how easy to clean. That and the Chameleon will be able to hide partially if it still wants to bask and hide a little.

man she loves the tree more then anyhting ive given her, seriously, but yeah thats sucks i have a local greenhouse/plant nursery 10 minutes away, they had 25ft tall ficus trees, on average though 4 to 5ft tall ficus's were $30 to $40, i was in shock and bought one.... and mad i didnt find this place along time ago, hahah

The fact that she loves the tree so much is also a great reason to allow her to use it even at the top of the cage.

The hibiscus I use are fake :D They look real nice. I use them to hide the pots. They are easy to clean too.

Ryan, What an enclosure. EDIT: You answered my questiont he same time I typed it! LOL! :) Awesome. I need to find a braided tree.. all mine seem to tall though! I have a 65 gal. repatarium. I have a ponytail palm but the only thing stable on that is the center..:(

how do you get the plants to hang? I have no crossbar.

I have recently seen a great way to do this. I hope this makes sense.

You can take a wooden dowel that is thick enough to take a screw on each side. Use a washer on both sides to secure it on the screen of the cage. hang it high enough in the cage to hang the Pothos and wrap the vines around the cage.

Does this work on Mesh though? I would think it would weigh too much. I dont have a steel screen but I know what you are saying..

Mesh may be an issue. I have seen it done on the small aluminum screen.

pothos are pretty light and don't carry much weight..

Another way would be to use a wire attached to something outside the cage.

You asked for some cheap alternatives to the bendable vines. One thing I use, are the dried and sandblasted white decorative sticks found in most dry arrnagement departments.

I've picked mine up at Walmart for $6.00 for 4 pieces that are 7' long or so. They can be wedged into places you like and cut easily.
