Egg Laying Issues

Hello,

My female cham recently had her first clutch of 50 eggs over the course of 2-3 days. This occurred between Friday and Monday. Mila is back in her cage, and on Monday noticed a large ball protruding from her rectum. This resulted in another egg... she's been like this for about 12 hours with no change, no additional eggs. Could this be another egg or are prolapses common after egg laying? How many days does the laying process usually take? I

Any advice would be great, I have a herp on standby, I'm just concerned about taking her out of her enclosure if it is in fact an egg, and don't want to disturb her. Any input is greatly appreciated. Also, I've read in cases of prolapse, its best to keep mass moist and lubricated, but just not too sure on what it is and don't want to stress her.

That is a prolapse. Get her to the vet ASAP. Put KY jelly on it and soak it in very cold water with as much sugar dissolved in the water as you can get to dissolve. This is VERY serious!

Thank you Jannb!

I thought so but, All the stuff I've googled looks slightly different, so I'm glad to get a second opinion. Also, the instant I ready your reply I jumped up and got the KY on her.

Unfortunately the Herp here has very odd hours (Mon-Tues, Thur-Sat, 8-12 3-5) So she can't get in until Thursday morning. I hope she makes it.

Could you tell me if it's common to have a prolapse after egg laying? The two seem to have happened back to back.

It can happen anytime. I would find an emergency vet and go now. Soak in the sugar water 10 minutes in and 10 minutes out, ten minutes in and 10 minutes out. Every time you take her out apply the KY. The cold sugar water will help with the swelling. It it swells to big they want be able to get it back in.

Sugar Water, Check!

I definitely understand the gravity of the situation. I'll start looking for an emergency vet right away. I'll get her in the sugar water immediately, it has gotten bigger since that picture.

I was just confused because when this began last night, after about 3 hours, there was an egg at the bottom of her cage, so I thought maybe she just wasn't quite done with her egg laying; so my game plan was give her privacy. Thanks for the info and suggestions.

Poor Mila! Some females do get intestinal/uterine prolapses from the strain of egg laying but it seems rare, at least from what I hear. It can also happen due to intestinal parasites, staining when defacating, etc. It's not super thoroughly understood as to why but luckily it can usually be treated with prompt medical attention. Definitely follow Jann's advice and see if someone will see you two soon. Best of luck to Mila!
