Egg bound

Hi there I wonder if you can help. My female veiled chameleon has layed 64 eggs before. She got MBD and we did treat her at the vet and everything. She got the MBD pretty bad and fell off her branches in her cage and broke 3 of her leggs. Although she still could walk and eat and drink water and everything. Now she has eggs again in her but it's not fertile because the male and female are separated. It's been more than a month now she still didn't lay her eggs and she also can because she can't dig with 3 broken legs. The vet don't want to do a Sergey on her because there is only a 5%that she could wake up. I stay in south africa so I can't send her somewhere to get a Sergey I also don't have the funds for that. What do I do? She still eats but 2 to 3 meal worms a day some days nothing she drinks water but very little and some days none. She just sits in her cage at the bottem all day on one spot she sleeps most of the time and she is pretty bad dehydrated. I put her in water every day for 20 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. What should I do please help me I'm desperate????

It's a tough call and I hope someone has a better plan than me but if she can't lay her eggs she will become eggbound and that will be a way worse death than not waking up from surgery...

With MBD, 3 broken legs and eggs in her chances are already very slim so realistically seen I would either pressure the vet to do the surgery anyways or else maybe even have her euthanized rather than having her suffer...

I'm sorry I can only give bad news but this is how I see it...:(

Your options are very bad.

I agree with Remkon except I disagree that surgery should be attempted. The vet is correct--your chameleon has a very poor prognosis going into surgery even if she didn't die during surgery.

She is clearly suffering. She has very little calcium in her body as evidenced by her fragile bones. Laying eggs--the actual physical effort of laying--uses a lot of calcium. Do the right thing by her and end her suffering.

I'm sorry. No one wants to make these kinds of decisions.
