Starting my dubia colony today thanks to jonrich!!! I can't wait till they start breeding. I can't wait to give my big guy a big old nymph or 6 to chomp on!! Again thanks jonrich for the colony starter!!!!

Hope that ur boy likes 'em! Good luck! Oh and remember, WARMTH + DARKNESS + ORANGES = happy breeding!!! :D

No problem! Thank you! Most of the females should be gravid and a good bit of the nymphs in the larger container are a shed away from being breeding adults! You should be well on your way!

Feed a few off just to see what your Cham thinks of them, then let them be for a few months!

And as maxttu stated. Darkness, heat, humidity and food is the key to kickstart breeding!

It has been a couple of months since I've done some separating. I see tons and tons of nymphs in my adult bin... :D
Guess I know what I'll be doing this week! ;)

actually they dont smell at all and i clean my colony like every 6mo just... because. Even then it doesn't smell, kinda of amazing when u think how much crickets stink. They are very clean, and since they are a tropical roach they need heat like .. high 80s to "infest". I have had a few escape, they just stand on top of the box and wait to get back in to the warmth and food of the colony lol

hmmmm. kinda tempting actually bc i live in PA at the moment and it is pretty cool up here even in the summer. if i were still living in Mississippi they would be EVERYWHERE. but here it stays cool.... dang... now i'm gonna have to do research on them

My girlfriend who was completely against them at first ran to the ups guy to open them up and put them in their new home. When she opened the containers that jonrich sent them in the first thing she said was "where's the smell?" lol. The benefits just simply outway the gross factor. They don't die in the hundreds like crickets do if things aren't perfect, they don't smell, they breed fast, are super cheap to take care of, and most of all they have more meat in the shell!! When I explained this to her and she asked if our female emperor scorpion could also eat them and I said yea she was extatic. She's gonna hold an adult tonight to get the whole gross thing out of the way so she can help me with them.

do you know a good site to order them from?

I got mine from a member here. Check the classifieds, see whose selli g and talk to them. If you can't find some one pm me.

my dubias arrive tomorrow, ive never bred them before is it just a case of stick them in together with the right conditions and it just happens?

how long does it take the babies to get big?

Yup just keep them under the right conditions and they will do what they do best eat and make babies. As far as how long, I wouldn't know you have to ask someone whose been raising dubias for a good answer

dark, warmth and oranges, carrots, etc will produce you copious amounts of babies.

i just plan on sticking the roach house on top of my cham tank, the heat that radiates up should be more than sufficient. i dont need thousands of them just a steady supply.
