Drainage

Hello,

We are working on building a new cage for our cham (a male ambilobe). He has a really nice large one that has worked out great for about a year, but he has fallen a couple of times  due to the screen being to small for him to grasp and we have decided a new cage would be best. Our new cage goals are to have it be made of PVC, have larger screen (with smaller screen on the outside to prevent cricket escape) so that he can crawl around on the sides if he wants, and to have an easy and functioning drainage system.

Originally we had the idea to use the bottom of one of those step in showers as the base, but that is obviously a really expensive solution. Does anyone have an idea of how to make something similar as the base? I want to stick with plastic/PVC if possible since it is easier to clean and dries faster in the humidity. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thank you,
Hollie

You can use anything you like as the base and cover it with plastic drop-cloth or even an old rain coat. Slope it towards the center and buy a $2 pvc drain opening, cut the hole to size and seal it with bathroom-grade silicone.

what chad said :p
1 cage i just used black painters plastic over plywood and around the side i used part of my old blinds to make a lip and sealed it with aquarium silicone.
cant find the close up pic of it. 2nd cage i just made the floor 1/2 inch lower than the side to make the lip and used clearish platic.
and for the dains i used the shower drain "screen" inserts
