Drainage

So I know there a bunch of threads already on this topic but I am new here and most of them are a few years old. I am planning on investing in a mistking starter kit soon and know I need drainage and was wondering what people have had success with most recently. I am aware of the water trays you can buy which you can set up to drain, I just want to know the best techniques people have ben using.
