My cage seem to be getting hot and i was wondering if i should still keep the basking light on for the summer?

IMHO if the temps are ample without the light on then no you don't need it because having it too hot could cause damage more quickly... If its making it up to 85 without the light in my cages I turn them off.... JMHO

gotta have light at all the time, during day and night. even if its hot then u should prolly get smaller one or reduce..

definately aggree...

When it gets hotter i tend to swap for a lower wattage bulb so it doesn't get too hot in the viv - keep measuring the basking site and ambient temps to get an idea of which wattage is right. However, being in the UK getting too hot isn't something that happens very often!!

I just turn off my basking light which is a 50-60 watt house bulb when it hits 80 in my house. I keep his uvb bulb on (well not for the last couple days but thats cuz he spends his day outside). Then all lights go off at bed time.
