Distance from UV bulb??

i was wondering the same... the tube lights dont get hot at all so is there such a thing as too close with the uvb tubes?( I know the spotlight should be backed up)

Adults can get pretty close to a 5.0 with no ill effects. I set them directly on top of the screen for adults, and they don't usually hang off the top like babies do! They are generally 5-10" from the bulbs. For babies I raise it off the top about 3-4", since they like to hang right under it. 10.0's (I use these on dark mesh Reptariums) have been shown to cause eye issues in babies, so I raise them up a little further for the youngsters. I am talking about all LINEAR FLOURESCENT TUBES-NO COMPACT BULBS! :)

ok. the only thing is the top of the cage is aluminum 1/2" hardware cloth, so the light goes through easier.. would it still be ok??

Go check this site out: http://www.uvguide.co.uk/

It's a brilliant resource. Shows you how much UV bulbs produce and roughly what levels are where! You want around a maximum of 50umv/cm^2 (or whatever it is) available at the closest point to the bulb. Compacts are a definite no no! Check out the poor lizards that were exposed to them! :( I can't believe the manufacturers made such a mistake! Just try and give and good gradient and you'll be fine! :D
