Distance between top to basking

My basking light is 60 watts. It sits elevated a couple inches from the top. My uvb tube is right next to it laying directly on top of the cage. His basking branch is about 5-6 inches down.
Wattage comes into consideration. If higher watt bulb u may have to elevate more. I get about 87-92 degrees in my basking points. Keep in mind put ur UVB right next to ur basking so he gets both at the same time.

This is somewhat dependent on the type of UVB you are using, the density of your plants and the mesh at the top of your enclosure, but generally speaking, your cham needs to be able to get within 12 inches of your UVB bulb.
As for basking, it depends on the strength of the bulb. Obviously, a chameleon needs to be closer to a 40 watt bulb than a 100 watt bulb to get the right temperature. So, it depends on your bulb. You need to make sure the basking spot hits the right temperature and adjust your bulb strength and/or distance accordingly. You also want to make sure your cham can't get close enough to the basking light, either from another branch or climbing the screen, etc. to burn themselves.

in a repti xl you can actually use either an Arcadia 12% t8 bulb a zoo med repti sun 10.0 or ARCADIA 22 INCH T5 HO FIXTURE AND BULB because of the height of the cage if you throw a little fake ivy vines in there offer a little shady spot these bulbs should work wonders. The most important thing is to offer a shady spot as far as basking goes again because its such a tall cage u can use a indor 100 watt flood light by Phillips from home depot this is cheaper to buy and gives a good range just make sure the dome is ceramic. on a side not i use the t8's at the moment but am switching to t5 ho soon with so many chams i use 4 ft fixtures and bulbs shop lights basically that have 2 bulb ports in the other port i use a 48 inch phillips natural light some may say not needed i feel that this is the key to indoor keeping's success. This gives them a full spectrum of sun light which is exactly what they are used to in the wild vit a and so on. This method turned my hurd around in a week what a difference Arcadia and the natural light made.

Assuming your UVB tube is sitting on top of the screen, I would want my cham to be able to get within about 10 inches of the tube.
Your basking temp is dependent on the species, sex and age. If it is the cham in your avatar, I will assume young veiled.
