Discoid Roaches: Opinions

So a while back, and I do mean a while back, I purchased 20 adult Discoids. 22 came in with I think 5 having wings and the rest not, and I have no idea how many were male and how many were female. Weeks began to pass and soon that turned into a couple months and by that time they all grew wings, but I had not gotten any nymphs yet. Then about a month ago I find 60-70 of them and from there on out I get about 30-40 every three or so days. I'm easily over 300 right now! I was wondering if they will continue to reproduce at this rate if all things stay the same i.e. food and temperature. If so I may have to find someone on here that will buy some off of me from time to time because I've only got 1 cham and he's just under a year old Veiled, that doesn't even take much of an interest in the nymphs . I would only need to sell some babies off for a little while to not get overun because at some point I'm getting a pair of Timor Monitors and possibly predatory fish: Peacock Bass, RTC, TSN, Pickerel, and at that point wouldn't have to worry about having too many nymphs

You can control population growth by raising and lowering their temperature and/or feeding out adults so you limit your adult population which in turn limits your production. Lowering temperature a few degrees effects growth and reproductive rate.

My favorite is similar to your current method- get more lizards.
:D

They are great roaches. I think the best method, until you get more lizards, is to just sell off extras. If you try to slow down the breeding, you wont have as many sizes available to use because they will slow down their growth too.

Yeah I thought of lowering their temps, but I am reluctant to
do so because I don't want to get them out of rhythm in their
breeding. They're on a roll :D. Also not wanting to feed off
adults because theres only 22, and it took a while for the ones
that didn't have wings to get wings and become full adults,
and even longer to start breeding. Can't even imagine how
long it will take these No. 2 pencil eraser sized nymphs to
get to adult size :p. And glad you like my idea of getting more
lizards...my wallet does not approve

Yea, just offer them for sale. Here in Florida we have a harder time getting in legal roaches, so I'm sure you'll have no problem getting buyers when they hear you have legal, non-flying, non-climbing roaches for sale. Have a small colony of them and they're great, I'm happy to have at least some of my feeders breeding by themselves - saves me from having to order in as many crickets and such.

I hear ya...do you have Discoids? Sounded like you do but wasn't for sure.

Yes, I got a few from Pssh and they're breeding really well.
Ok I wanted to ask a question, but was waiting for someone that breeds Discoids. Have you raised any from babies to adults? And if so approximately how long did that take with what conditions? Thanks

Perhaps Pssh could answer that, I don't think any of my nymphs have made it to adults themselves yet so I don't know how long it takes. All the nymphs are fairly small still, I've only had the roaches like 2 months I think.

Ok thanks I'll just send her a message.

You could send some to me ;) if they're legal here  but any time, send me a message. But if anyone that reads this message sends me some, don't send me 2 inch monsters
