Darn ants

Ant problem in my room. Killed my crickets (I have plenty more outside though). They were attracted to the gut load I guess, and killed the ants along with raiding the food. Thankfully none in the chameleon enclosure, unless there's a select few that I cannot see. There are still LOTS and LOTS of ants (or there were just a minute ago) all-around that area. It is as if they are coming in through the window (I think they really are). But closing the window will not solve the problem. My mother sprayed some insect killer where they were (right under the enclosure) and put a fan blowing in the direction of the window so the fumes don't get into the enclosure and go out the window.

I am just concerned that this will harm my chameleon. Should I take my chameleon out for a while just in case? He seems a bit stressed right now and probably won't come out unless I lure him with food. But the only crickets I have right now are the ones fed on orange cubes and water crystal stuff.

I hear ya. If we leave anything out it gets infested. Making some kind of mote works. They also don't like baby powder or cinnamon. I've also been toying with the idea of using double sided tape.

If you aren't seeing a lot in your chams enclosure then I doubt it would stress too much. I'll see an occasional one in Fitz's enclosure and he seems to ignore them. Are you checking the cage often and turning over a bunch of leaves? I could see why that would stress it out.

The ants leave a scent trail for all the others to follow. Once they find something, it is all over with. I move whatever it is they find and spray for the ants, and a couple days later move it back. I'm telling you people, ant eaters really should be allowed. :D
