cultural differences in reptile keeping...

Hi Folks!

Today, i went in a petshop, to get some information about a local breeder. I just wanted to talk to him about chameleons, and his experiences. In the near future, im planning to get a male panther too, and i wanted to ask when will the next clutch hatch or when could i buy a male. A friend of mine told me, that there is a person who breeds panthers, i should ask him about it. And guess what happened!?!

The guy in the petshop wont tell me the name or the contact of the breeder!!! I told him i want to BUY (for money :p) a chameleon, im just want to ask for details, such as a photo of the Sire and Dam etc... but nothing happened, the name and the contact still unavalible. Kinda unbeliveble !!! The petshop guy knew the contact, but didnt tell me, even if i would buy the chameleons from the petshop (if the breeder bring them in the shop). Can u understand this??? :D And it was because he said nobody going to share his secrets and personal recepies on chameleon breeding....OMG:eek: i didn't want to ask for those "secrets", just an opinion to get another chameleon:eek:

And here, on this forum - what if free for join and read - there are so kind people. You are all share your information about the most thiny details about everything on chameleon keeping. Its a shame, that i cant buy chameleons from the US or even from the UK....

Sorry for the long story, but i must wrote it down! :D

And i want to thank you ALL for the kindness and loads of help you give to the people who loves chameleons and other reptiles!!!! BIG THANKS! :D

Greetings: Ricardo

No kidding. Thats ODD. You would think you would want business...?

Hmm i dont no. you might be taking it the wrong way. Dont get me wrong this kinda seems like the dude is a jerk or whatnot but maybe he is just screening his potential customers who can and cant handle a chameleon. maybe if you go back and talk to him more and tell him your experience with them then you might be able to but then again im only hoping for the best and hoping that he is only screening. in any case he still seems like a jerk so i dont no. maybe give it another shot if you want to.

It is possible the pet shop person is worried that if you contact the breeder directly you will buy from that breeder rather than from the pet shop. Protecting the business and profit is often more important to businesses than the health and wellbeing of the animals or the interests of the customer.
I'm glad you find this forum useful. I do too!

This is actually very common for small pet stores. For all they know you could be affiliated with their competition. One store I visit frequently for feeders has this same policy; they obtain most of their feeders locally but will not tell me from who. Probably good for the pet store because I would happily bypass the store and buy directly from the source.

since there are not too many breeders here ill give it one more try, but only one. As i told him i dont want to buy from the breeder directly....whatever...maybe there are others who breed panthers. I dont want to buy a male from the same breeder, cuz im afraid i will buy one of my chameleons brother..and as far as i know its not too healthy thing to mate with a brother :p:eek:
