I was just turning off Peanuts basking light to start her night-tine routine and it blew out the extension cable or the UVB starter box thing!

There was a huge bang and a flash of bright orange light, it flip the fuse on the house turning everything off.

Poor Peanut, not the best way to start bedtime


Both bulbs are intact, so no glass to deal with thank god... the basking bulb still works but the uvb wouldnt switch back on.

I dont want to freak her out anymore tonight so i'm gonna mess around with the plugs and stuff in the morning

OMG! Poor Peanut (and you!) That musy have been so scary! I bet Peanut felt the bang, poor thing! I don't know much about lighting, but Amy's UV box has the starter in it, so I presume they can be replaced. It sounds like more than that though if you had sparks and everything! Its good that no glass was shattered though - I would panic so much if that happened to me!

Do you have all of your stuff plugged into a surge protector?

In your breaker (fuse?) panel, you have breakers (or fuses?) How many amps are those breakers (fuses?) rated for? You should see a little 15 or matbe a 10 or even a 20.

You probably just blew out your ballast (you may have blown the fuse in that UVB fixture, and replacing that will fix everything) on your UVB fixture, but its odd that it shut off the other lights. I bet that your UVB bulb still works too.

I put all of my stuff (Habba-mist, basking light, and UVB light) on timers, and then have the timers plugged into a surge protector that is rated for the right number of amps (I think mine is a 10 amp). From memory, I think my basking light was 0.9 amps and the Habba-mist was something like 3 amps and the UVB light was a whopping 0.2 (really small amount), thats a total of 4.1 amps for everything. I am telling you all of this because I think its odd to blow a breaker (fuse) when your only drawing less than 5 amps.
