Im pretty sure thats false, and even IF that were true the virus only affects A.domesticas, so other species such as the brown field cricket, the tropical banded cricket, and the ethiopian cricket would be thrown into play.

Probably not. There are always survivors to diseases, so at the very least, the ones that are left to breed are the ones that are immune.

deffinatly not true. where does your source get their shipments from? all the stores in windsor deal with canadian feeders. and there is nothing about crickets becoming "extinct" lol. maybe that store is just becoming lazy

I have read that there is some kind of a virus infection (Parvo?) killing farmed crickets all around the country, but so far I get them at my local Petsmart without a problem, and the girls there did not know any shortage from suppliers. They also told me, they get their crickets from northern California...

I talked to my cricket people today, she said their was something similar that happened in Europe about 10 years ago. Wiped out all commerical breeders for months and months. The crickets will be back, just give it time. I hope it doesn't drive up the cost of other feeders:eek: This just stinks!! I wanted to give my dubia colony a couple more months before I dug into it:mad: Stupid cricket virus!!

yeah i hate this i want to build up my roach colony but some times cant find no crix and i have to feed my dubias out i hope it would end soon.

down here in the south we dont have this cricket problemall of ours are living and locally grown.

thats my one problem, say for some strange reason something actually happens to the crickets up here, we cant get dubais up here!!! it sucks and im sure charlie would love to munch down on some haha

I've had no trouble getting crickets (or dubia for that matter). Try a different supplier.
If you cant get crickets for awhile, there are plenty of other insects to choose from. Supers and mealworms provide chinton and are gutloadable, there are several types of roaches, stick insects(also gutloadable), silkworms (also gutloadable), hornworms, butterworms, cabbage loppers, moths, flies, terrestrial isopods, ...

If you are talking about the virus that attacks the crickets...I think it doesn't do anything to younger crickets...so just buy the next size down and give the chameleon more of them to eat.
