I have to agree. The temp drops drastically at night if you look at it. It also rains almost every night im sure.

They seem to do great outside here in FL. I have seen them from time to time open their mouth but on especially hot days they get extra misting. Eventually I need to get a watering system!

That is true. With temps like that, I think a panther or veiled can thrive in Florida without any problems. (Of course not 12 hours of direct sunlight though. Way to hot no matter what.) As long as they are in the shade most of the day, they should thrive. My juvenile panther did.

Healthy panther certainly do survive in the wild in short term extreme temperatures outside of the recommended norms for captivity. The captivity recommendations take into consideration that the animal cannot escape (leave the area) the conditions we provide, and that we'd like the animal to live as long as possible (not be stressed by more punishing conditions).

just goes to show you that people who say certain temps are LAW are wrong, these creatures are survivors! maybe with this info people will looses up on the precise ambient 75 and basking of no higher than 90 routine.

Agreed! I still would be weary about pushing 90 degrees in captivity though. Just for the sake of the cham living longer.

Hmm... i don't think members state it because they believe it's "law" rather a guideline to provide the most suitable and appropriate temps for a panthers needs to strive, rather then putting your cham through an episode of survivor man.

Exactly, and well, the temps given are the easiest to keep them safely. Any hotter than 90 and you have to increase the amount and frequency of mistings. 2 30 second mistings a day at 95F, just won't cut it.

Think about where weather stations tend to put their thermometers...on roofs, buildings, at airports, where heat is reflected off paved surfaces, or in the sun part of the day. No cham would sit out in full sun at those temps. Under some forest canopy in dense leafy shade its probably a lot cooler.
