I have just acquired another panther cham ( like to say I saved him, he was in a 30 gallon setup with only a basking lamp and he is 14 months old). Anyways im looking to get him a UVA/UVB lighting setup. Its been awhile since ive looked at this type of lighting. but ive noticed they have the compact flour. type of bulbs. What would you guys recommend, im not really on a budget but if I can save a few that would be great. Thanks!

Dear Ramsey,

There are many risks related with using a compact fluorescent lamp. They tend to give *very* strong UVB rays as well as shorter wavelength rays that are naturally absorbed by our atmosphere.

Many chameleon keepers here avoid using compact fluorescent UVB lamps for this reason.

ZooMed reptisun 5.0 fluorescent tube is one product that is very commonly used here. I use it in most of my enclosures as well.

You won't necessarily save money by using compact fluorescent UVB bulbs.

Please read http://www.uvguide.co.uk/compactlamps.htm and http://www.uvguide.co.uk/reptisuncompacts.htm to learn about dangers related to using compact fluorescent UVB bulbs.

Welcome to the forums Ramsey.

Steer Clear of Compacts.........

Steer clear of those compact UVB bulbs. There are multiple threads dealing with the effects they have on chams. Eye issues and burns. I have personally experienced the burn issue. Stick with the Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0 depending on your cage size, etc.
