Coil Bulbs vs Long UVB Bulbs

Okay so i know that there was a problem in coil bulbs a couple years back. Zilla coil bulbs were starting to get eye problems. But they recalled the product and started making a new one that was tested and approved. I have a Zoo med and Exo Terrium coil bulbs. Do you think that it is okay to use them? I heard that they are too strong to use for 4.5 and 5 month old chameleons. Is this true?

I know alot of people are afraid of them. I have seriously been looking into CFL's and i havent really gotten conclusiv info. So my suggesion for you , is if you already have used them w/ no problems, then wait untill you need to replace them, then just get linear tubes.

I have used the Repti-sun 5.0 long linear tube for years now and since I have had no problems with them I will continue to use them. I don't think I will ever use the compacts or spirals or the MV's for that matter. I like the fact that the long tube produces a long "line" of UVB light instead of a "circle" of light.

I am also ditching the CFL's in my household fixtures since I have read some bad reports about them about using them in close proximity to you and other reports warning people not to use them in their garage door opener lights because they malfunction.

I suppose you can always go ahead and use them and time will tell if they are not good for the chameleon....but why risk your chameleon's health when there are lights that have not had anything bad said about them??

Just my opinion....
