Dear all,
i am kind of in the middle now with question choose UVB blub again.
i saw some topic a day ago in about a memeber suggested do not use UVB coil blub and should throw it away, just stick with tube.
now i having query why coil blub not as good as tube and what's the advance and disadvance for coil and tube.

i just want to make it clear the different. current i am using tube for my panthers and fischeri.

cheers

The coil type can cause eye problems, blindness and they can even leave burns! The long tube uvb is the best way to distribute (artificial) light throughout the enclosure along with a heat bulb(regular 40-60w incandescent house bulb). Search "coil uvb" or "compact uvb" and you can find what you need to know in more detail.

i see. thanks mate. i did some research from exo-terra, but nothing talk about the disadvance for sure. lucky didnt use the coils.

Talking to the vet yesterday he said the Husbandry for Gizzy was brilliant barring one thing - the UV tube. He said that recent research suggested that a "two in one" UV and Heat bulb would be better as only the centre of a tube is effect, however the dual bulb made certain the Cham was getting the calcium. It would be great to hear some opinions on that as I am favouring the tube and also Gizzy has her heat lamp on a dimming thermostat - wouldn`t that defeat the object of having the all-in-one ?

The problems with mercury vapor bulbs are that the chameleon cannot bask only in UVB, they can produce a lot of heat so you have to raise them sometimes (making UVB further away,) and the UVB output can be high if you don't know what you're doing. So basically, I don't recommend them unless you have a UVB meter, but I still think a tube and a bulb are best. The the chameleon has the choice to have heat with UVB or just UVB unlike with the 2 in 1. As long as you have a reptisun or reptiglo you're fine.

Type of tube light important.......

There are also health issues associated with R-Zilla linear tube lights..They have a Desert series and a Tropical series. I've used the ZooMed Reptisun linear tubes for my reptiles for decades and would never switch to another brand just because I am so satisfied with them. I use Mercury Vapor lights for my adult iguanas. I bought the Mega-Ray 100 watt-low UVB bulbs for my large Melleri free range.
