Just got my vets fecal float back, my little dude has coccidia.. Anyone have expierence with this illness?

Did the vet give you medication to treat it? Also you will need to make sure that you clean everything that you cham has been in contact with as it is contagious to other pets.

My girlfriend is a vet tech so she's getting the meds. He stays in his cage an on his ficus when he's out for some sun. None of my other pets have contact with him.

Try and get ponazuril. It is the best anti_coccidial drug on the market (safest). When cleaning up, be sure to get a strong concentration of peroxide, as most other cleaners won't kill the germ.

As coccidia can cause dehydration due to diarrhea be sure to hydrate regularly, use gloves when dealing with infected animal, and wash your hands thoroughly before dealing with another animal.

Coccidia does occur naturally in many wc animal, it is when the parasite is able to get out of control that it can damage your pet.

I've been dealing with a bit of a dehydration issue and this infection is probably why. Idk what my vet is gonna give to me but he himself owns a few chams and he's dealt with this before. I RARLEY handle my little guy but I'll keep that in mind. I just hope he gets better. As soon as I k ow what drug I'm gonna be giving him I'll let you guys know. As far as cleaning his cage, I don't have a second cage to house him in. Should I wait for him to start his meds and give the cage a really good cleaning, while I leave him on one of his plants then put him back in and clean that plant?

Thanks Laurie! I'll take a look at them. He hasn't shown really any signs of being sik other then his urate. Glad I caught it when I did. Glad that my vet knows what he's doing also.

I would request ponazuril... It is the only one without notable side affects. You should clean your cage twice. After the first round of treatment... then again after the second is complete. Since coccidea exists in two life stages, it takes multiple treatments to kill it off, and they can reinfect themselves if you aren't careful. You may just want to replace your plant after treatment is done.

I was already thinking the same thing. I have 2 a ficus and sheffera. But they aren't pricey so I'm just gonna replace them. No point in gambling with my guys health!

Baycox has no side affects either. It also KILLS rather than having the parasites pass. Less chance of reinfection.

I used this on Lily and after the one treatment - she tested clean and has tested clean 2 more times. tests 3 months apart.

I changed her plants once I started the meds. and that was all I did for the clean up since the parasites die prior to being passed :)

Cami is correct my guy has normal poop and the only sign I could notice was his dehydration problem. The vet tested and he's positive. I need some ideas on how to give him his meds, I was thinking worms that were mount and sprinkle the powder on them.

its a powder?
then yea id dust them like you would wtih your supplements.

if a liquid, i would inject softworms with the med.

Yeah it's like a supliment there just so little of it in each vial that I'm worried about getting him the full dose
