Changed UV Bulbs

I took my meter today and started to measure some of my UV bulbs and decided that it was time to change them. It had been 6 months and many of them were in the 20 measurement.

So, task done, I went to check on how my guys were all doing and everyone was snuggled up by the UV bulb. In fact, 2 of them started to shed. I guess I am really amazed how important it is besides the benefits of the UV's but I was a little surprised at how much the chams just liked to be by the lamp. I'm so glad I could offer them something they need and wanted. :D

20? what bulb? at what distance? and how does that compare to the replacement bulb at the same location? just curious...

I am referring to my UV bulbs. When I replaced them they all measured over 50 at 12" from the bulb. I have all the basking perches set at this level. Of course the chams perch where they will, but they pretty much use the places that I built for them to sit under the UV and basking bulbs.

BTW, I have a meter that measures the UV's emanating from my linear bulbs which I use. I have 25 cages and buy my bulbs by the case.

probably a good idea to switch them out no matter what at 6 months. TO me a meter is not needed since I change them so often and have the chameleons in the sun most spring all summer and fall. So in the 5 months that they are on artificial they get fed more d3 anyways. I guess I could get a bunk bulb and never know.

Be cool to watch how fast the bulbs degrade though.
