Change in personality

As some of you know, Tommy has been having vet treatment for the paralysis in his front leg for a good few months now. Sadly, his personality has been changing. My normally sweet and gentle boy has now started to his and lunge at me and he tries to headbutt too. I am well aware that chameleons are more usually not handleable and can be said to be mean and agressive, nasty even. Tommy has never been like that since I got him - he hasn't got a bad bone in his body. Like Lily and Amy he just doesn't 'do' nasty, until now. It is worrying me now that something other than his leg is going on and causing him to act differently. These days when I open his viv and put my hand in I am never quite sure which Tommy I ill be greeted with and that makes me so sad. I am also unsure when he falls - sometimes he will let you help right him and others he won't let you near him at all. My poor boy.

Tiff, you know how I feel. Tommy is less and less about Tommy and more & more about pain. Nothing but heartbreak for you both. I am so sorry.

I think sometimes when they are treated for long periods of time (especially for pain) they start to grow tired of all the extra attention. Hopefully he will turn back to his loving self after all is said and done. I doubt he was hiding his illness and now you are seeing the real Tommy.

When he is in a position you have to help him use a towel around your hands. This will help so he wont be so aggressive towards your hands and he will blame the towel.

I tried to help him earlier, but he had that look in his eye - not like his usual look so I used a towel. That just made him worse and he repeatedly headbutted the towel. That's what prompted me to write about him on here. So sad, bless him. At least I am getting to regonise the eye difference between normal Tommy and nasty Tommy. I guess I just know him so well - probably a good job as it might save me from losing a couple of fingers, lol!
