Chameleon tracking

Hi

This might sound a bit stupid but my friend took her Veiled Chameleon outside & now it's disappeared, another friend said that she should have put a tracker on it, similar I guess to a dog (can you get chameleons microchipped?) but she said you can get little medallion things now. I said I didn't think it would be possible to get one for a Cham so was wondering if anyone on here could settle the argument - is it possible to get a tracker for a chameleon?

Also if anyone has any tips on how to find lost chameleon, is it just a case of searching the garden and hoping for the best?

Thirdly any tips on how to take them outside safely would be great - should they always go out in a cage?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if you can get them chipped or not but it probably wouldn't help anyway. If someone finds it they probably won't get it checked for a chip.

As for finding the lost cham it is just a matter of looking and hoping for the best. Searching a night with a flashlight is also a good idea. They will turn a brighter color when sleeping that may make him just a bit easier to spot. It is possible that the cham got eaten to.

I would always send them outside in a cage. They can walk off pretty fast or get eaten by a bird or other animal.

Second on the flashlight. On Florida and Hawaii they hunt chams at night. Veileds, if I remember correctly, become lighter when they sleep.

They are hard to spot and you should go in a grid type pattern. I some times have to search for my baby panthers in a cage where I know they are. In a yard won't be easy. If it's a small yard, letting neighbors know might be helpfull since many people would see it as a strange lizard and nothing more.
