Chameleon thick/dark mesh

I bought a new mesh cage, on this one i notice the mesh a little thicker than my exo-terra one and it is a very dark mesh. I use a 5.0 uvb bulb. But i was wondering if the mesh is too thick for the uv rays to get throught? this is worrying me because my cham has been going to bed about 2 hours before the lights are shutting off, and i know chams going to bed early can be a sign of illness? Also, i have a 10.0, it has never been used but i have had it for about a year and a half. Will it still emit the proper uv?
Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear your cham may be having a problem.
Not knowing where you're located I have to ask---Are the days are getting shorter in your part of the world?
It would seem odd that a cage designed for reptiles might have mesh that is too tight a weave but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.
Can your cham get to within 12" of the UVB bulb?
Is the 5.0 bulb less than 6 months old? Bulbs stop emitting enough UVB after about 6 months of use, despite lighting up just fine.

If the 10.0 UVB bulb has never been used, it should be the same as when it was new, though some chams have developed eye problems when a 10.0 is used.

Better than a UVB bulb is to be able to give your cham some outdoor time if current temperatures in your area allow it.

thanks for replying, he is within 12" and all that is perfect, im in canada and the days actually just started getting longer.

its not that this is a serious issue cause the sleeping has only been for 2 days now. i just love the guy and wanna make sure nothing's wrong:)

is it possible that this is simply fatigue?, his lights are usually on from 7am to 7pm. sometimes a little later if i cannot get home in time to shut them off.

He still eats normally, poop looks good and doesnt have any other irregular behaviore.

You're very welcome.
If you've recently turned the clocks ahead, then it may only be an hour earlier.
I would certainly keep an eye out for anything else that is unusual for him but 2 days of early rest may be nothing.
If you get a simple mechanical timer for his lights, then he will always get his usual sleep.
You don't have any nighttime light on him I hope.
Sometimes petstores recommend a red light for night--which is actually bad for chams.
If you want to be 100% sure that his care is exactly as needed, you can follow my earlier suggestion:

No, i am very familiar with the care for most reptiles, i have been working with them for years. I was just unsure about this sleeping thing. My first chemeleon i owned quite a while back started to have irregular sleeping patterns when he was old, i just didn't want anything happening to this one.
