Dear all,

I am looking at all your beautiful chameleons but was caught offguard by all the available species there is. I realise there is a thread on species, but it is all in scientific jargons. Can anyone be kind enough to identify, or better yet, put in pictures to the different spicieis of chameleon? Obviously Im very new at this and need some guidance. (Apologies if this thread is not suitable here mods !).

All i know is senegal and veils or panthers which are easier to identify. I do not know about ambanja, nosy be, mitons, and etc. Id really be grateful if someone can educate me on this.

It can be confusing! If you go to the Screameleons website you can see a lust of the more common Panther 'locales', which are the Ambanja, Nosy Be etc, named for the different areas they are found.

As for species, there are hundreds of species of chameleon, but the ones most commonly available as pets are Veiled, Jackson and Panther. There are also a fair few wild caught Senegals around, as well as the very similar-looking Gracefuls and Flapnecks.

ahh thanks trillian ... much appreciated. Its just extremly confusing as we are not exposed to the different species around. One of the pet shop was offereing a panther chameleon before, and i was wondering what type it was ...but that was weeks before. Just want be more knowledgable. id check out the website to learn more.

id checked out the website and understood now !!! THANKS A BUNCH TRILLIAN the BRILLIANT !

Lol! New status! You are welcome, it's so confusing at first, I was relieved to find the site, I wasn't brave enough to ask!
