It’s 9’’ away from the branch. Ima go out and buy a dimmable lamp later I heard that could help.

@Beman what temp for a 3 month old?

Since baby is gaping the OP should drop it back to 82 degrees. Also the type of bulb makes a difference. Regular incandescents give an area of heat while the basking bulbs typically are designed to do a focused smaller area.
