Chameleon Health

HI,

I was just wondering as I am here on the health forum. Is it hard to keep a chameleon healthy?. I've been reading about URI's and eye issues, including one with Titus, and is it possible to keep a chameleon without having any health issues? Thanks.

I have only had my chameleon since April but from all the stories I have read on here, if your husbandry is correct you have a pretty darn good chance of having a healthy chameleon. There can still be issues, but for the most part follow the advice of the forum and you should do well. However, as with any species, things happen that are sometimes out of the keepers control.

I think from time to time most chameleons will have some sort of health issue. That's why is so important to fine a chameleon vet and build a good relationship with your vet for when you do have a problem. Unlike dogs and cats my chameleon vet says a check up once a year is not enough for a chameleon and he recommends every six months. He checks them over and does fecals in hopes that if there is a problem he can catch it before it becomes serious.

How are things?

Yes, being that most Chams we buy are captive bred if you get one from a quality breeder so that they are off to a good start from birth and then you as a new owner keep your Husbandry correct you should have a healthy Cham... but as with any living thing... things can and do come up it's simply unavoidable when dealing with living things.

How is Titus doing??? Any luck with the eye? Better/worse?
