Chameleon eating urates?!?!?!

Hi everyone!
So today my little female veiled did something rather odd and disgusting!
She had just had her lunch and a drink when I saw her doing her 'poo stance' so I stood and watched as I do to make sure everything is normal.
Now she usually urates first and I saw that her urates were quite runny and there was a lot of them! There ended up being a sort of 'string' of goop hanging out of her poo flap and she turned her head down to look at it (or so I thought) but then shot her tongue at it and tried to eat it! I promptly went up to her tank and tried to put her off by distracting her but it was too late! she had gotten the string in her mouth and was eating it up!!!!!!
Shortly after wards she resumed the poo stance and did yet more urates but also dod a little poo which looked normal and not runny.
I am so baffled and worried that she ate the urates :( Is she going to get sick from doing it? I have never seen hedr do that before but have also never seen gooey urates hanging out either.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? female veiled chameleon, about 3-4 months old but not 100% sure. Has been in our care for 4 weeks
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? I have never handled her, just had to put the box she came in near the tank and let her climb out!
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? She eats about 10 medium locusts per day as she won't touch crickets. I cant seem to gutload the locusts as the won't eat anything, much to my frustration. She has the occasional treat of a wax or meal worm. Eats curly kale on a daily basis but tried her first strawberry yesterday and loved it! (could the strawberry have made the runny urates?) We feed her in two sittings, 5 locusts at midday and another 5 at about 5pm when we get in from work which seems to be working well for her.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? dust at least half of her feed daily with exo terra plain calcium and have komodo calcium with d3 and multivit to use twice a month. Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Use a hand pump spray bottle for misting which is done around 6 ish times a day for a couple of minutes each time or until she is finished drinking. I see her drinking from the spray more than once a day, usually after a meal but sometimes in the morning too. She has been drinking more than usual the past 3 or so days but I thought it was because she is starting to shed. Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? She usually urates first which is a white gooey sack type thing? followed by a little brown log which is not runny but will break up when it lands on something. She usually poops once a day. She has not been tested for parasites in our care.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. We got her from a pet shop in aberdeen but she was picked up by the pet shop owner here. They thought she was a male but when they went to put her in the box for shipping they realised she was female but said she was much bigger than the other females from the same clutch. The pet shop sent me all the wrong things so i question their competency in caring for a chameleon.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? zoo med reptibreeze aluminium screen enclosure 2x2x4 feet
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Dome light fitting with a 75w spot bulb for heat, arcadia t5 bulb 12% uvb in an arcadia hood. both lights go on at 9am and are swtched off at 9pm every day.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?her basking spot is at 80f and bottom of the cage is just below 70f. I have an analogue temp guage at the top just next to her basking spot and one at the bottom of the tank. Readings have been backed up by a digital thermometer but it is too big to have in there all the time however it had the same reading as the analogue one when we tested. lowest night temp is about 60f i think.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? humidity is usually between 40 and 60 measured by an analogue hygrometer but has been backed up by the digital thermo hygrometer when we were doing the first tests. There is a shower curtain at the back of the ta\nk (outside) and the tank and plants get well misted several times a day. Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? Yes there is a ficus plant, a palm plant and a sort of small yukka plant(dracaena something or other i think) there are also fake hangigng vines and lots of vines/bamboo to climb on
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? Tank is on top of a table which brings the top of the tank to about 6 foot. She is in a corner of the living room, not much traffic.
Location - Where are you geographically located? We are in the shetland isles at the most northern point of scotland in the north sea.
Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.
today her urates were quite runny and she ate them when they were hanging out of her flap. She has just started to shed a few days ago and tried a strawberry for the first time yesterday. I am concerned that she may get sick from ingesting her urates :(

If anyone has any info it would be greatley recieved. Thanks in advance,
Angie.

I wish I had a good answer for you. I have seen chams eat shed, but never poo or urates. I have seen them inadvertently pick some up when licking leaves for water and promptly spit it out and shake their heads and look like they are making a face, but not purposefully eating it.

Maybe someone else will have the same experience as you.

After she didnt get It did she try again? Did she actually eat some? Maybe looked down mistook it for a worm wax worm or somthing got s taste and decided sgainst it?

She shot at it a couple of times then eventually got it. She did eat it and had some stringy stuff hanging out her mouth. It's not impossible that she could have thought it was a worm. She didn't seem disgusted by the taste, just chomped it up!

It could well have looked like a silkworm to her. They do odd things sometimes! It was probably just a one off thing, but keep an eye on her in case she makes a habit of it. One thing I read in your help form - you said that you can't gutload locusts. They eat leafy greens - I feed mine 'wild rocket' salad leaves. I have also grown wheat grass for them too.

Thank you I will keep an eye on her. Come to think of it, it did look a bit like a silkworm!

I've tried lots of different leaves and veg with the locusts. Sometimes the little ones eat a bit of leaf but not much. I will persivere though! I'm just glad that Teal'c will eat fruit and leaves as well as locusts.
