Chameleon Diet

Hey everyone!

I have Luna eating 1 hour after she has her lights on in the morning, she eats around 7 crickets then, and around 6:00 she will eat another 7. She has constant access to Kale because she loves greens.

Is this a safe amount? I have not had the chance to grab meal worms because everywhere is sold out.

How old is she? As they get older females need to eat less to help reduce clutch size. Can you get superworms? They are better than mealworms. Mealworms can cause impaction

Around 4-5 months old, and I can indeed, what's the best way to feed them to her?

I dont have much experience with females so I am not totally sure. Maybe someone with female experience will chime in and tell you what is the appropriate amount for her to eat

After she reaches 6 months I would cut her down to 5-6 crickets every other day, and lower her basking temps to around 80 degrees see how she tolerates that. She is approaching the age where she will lay eggs do you have a laying ben set up for her?

I will be setting one up tomorrow, should I feed her anything else or just crickets? And should I start doing it now?

No you should still feed her a verity just about half of what you would feed an adult male. Verity is the spice of life, and she will need it for good nutritional value. No matter what you feed her a good gut load for your insects, and the proper supplements are the most important. I would wait until she is closer too 6 months she is still growing right now and should be fed accordingly.

Sorry to still this thread but I am interested to no how much do you feed a 6/7 month old male and also when do you change the amount they eat?

They will slow down on how much they eat as the age. I would feed your male 10-12 crickets every other day.

@Sarge84 your cham should let you know. They will slow down a little on their own. Mine has started to as well. If I notice that he didn't eat everything one day, I will skip the next day feeding. Then when I do feed him again he shows way more interest. Although there are guidelines, I don't feel that there is a number of crickets per day set in stone. Each and every cham is different.

I'm worried that if I keep feeding him he won't stop and get fat. First time worries

He is about that now. I'm just confused about when you do every other day, I will feel like I'm starving him then.

He won't be starving. From what I have read, most of our chams are overweight... I still feed mine almost every day also. I will soon start missing days here and there. I might start with something like 2 days feeding 1 day off... 2 on 1 off... etc... and see how that goes.

Males can be fed as much as they want until they are about 9 months. Then lower it to about 8 every other day

Edit: usually males will slow their eating by themselves, most females won't
