Chameleon cage dimensions

I have a male Panther Chameleon in a custom 2'x2'x4' tank. I was thinking of making a new one but I would like to make it wider and not as deep. Maybe 36"x18"x48"? Is it better to have a deeper or wider cage, or does it even matter as long as there is vertical space? Thanks for your input!

18x36x48 is a good size for an adult panther, :) vertical space is always better in most situations. I your going to custom build you might as well do 24x36x48. 6 inches will make a big difference, but still not take up much more space. Either of those sizes will suit him though. By the way what do you mean when you said tank? Ha ha ha ha

I started with bearded dragons and leopard gecko's, originally kept in fish tanks, it has become a habit to refer the enclosure as a tank. Thanks for the input, I'm just looking to make something that doesn't stick out quite so much and maybe gives more of a display.
