This book was published about 2 years after I got my first "American Chameleon" (1977).
In defense of the book, the author does identify the species as an anole and there is a picture of a parson's as an example of an old world chameleon.
At any rate 33 years later it was amusing to see this book and I picked it up for 50 cents.

Cool beans! I have a bunch of the old chameleon (anole) books. I have the one you have also. I have a great one thatstitled "Enjoy your Chameleon" It has a true chameleon on the cover (couldnt tell you the species) but its allabout anoles. It all so has a photo of a jackson on the inside. Its pretty funny. Brad I also shop at many thrift stores and have found some good reptile books. And alot of other junk!

I remember when I was a little kid and Bought my first Anole thinking it was a real chameleonand how disapointed I was to find out it was not areal chamelon but at least now iam all grown up and can aford a real cham now

I remember when I was 6 (around 15 years ago 
) my great grandparents lived on an ocean chanel and there were anoles allll over the place and my grandpa always told me they were chameleons. I think at one time we had about 6 of them in a cage and we fed them grass hoppers.
