Yesterday I got a 2.5 year old Veiled from an ad on craigslist. He has been under a CFL uvb light for atleast 2 years. You know the curly compact ones? Do you guys think any damage hase been done to his eyes after that amount of time (2 yrs)? How do I check his eyes for damage or blindness?

Thanks for the help!

Of course you should have him checked by a vet, but if he's having trouble hunting/eating that could be a sign. Also, if he's in a new enclosure he might have trouble getting around.

Howdy,

He's probably ok but it can depend on the CFL mfgr/make of the UVB light used. For example, if it was an old-style (pre-2009 date code on the instruction sheet) Reptisun CFL 10.0 then you'd have the pontential for more eye issues than an old-style Repti-Glo CFL. If his eyes look clear; no cloudiness, just get a Reptisun 5.0 linear tube version and put it around 6"-12" away from him at his basking spot and forget about UVB issues for now :o. If there is old corneal damage there isn't much you can do anyway :(.
