Ceramic heat emitters?

We've recently moved our veiled chameleon into a new enclosure, a 100 gallon flexarium. When we purchased it we were recommended a ceramic heat emitting light to warm it (150 watts). However, after a couple of days of being in there it seems to me that he doesn't actually use it, I've never seen him bask under it. Do chameleons not recognise the basking spots without visible light? Thanks in advance

You don't need a heat emitter unless your ambient temps are 'too low' for the chameleon. Just use a 50w halogen PAR20 flood lamp from Home Depot. Chams won't go to a heat emitter to bask.
