I just brought Alphonse home 3 days ago. He came from a Petland store. He was in a terrible enclosure, a 36" tall reptibreeze with a few fake leaves and one fake vine that was positioned directly underneath the red basking lamp. The enclosure was covered on three sides by a jungle pattern screen/ tank background paper. The top half of his casque is mostly white. Could it be a burn? I've not been able to find any pics of a similar looking casque anywhere. Do you all think it is a burn? It's smooth but not flaking. The border where the white meets his normal color is slightly raised. A small ridge so to speak. Apart from his casque and tail he looks healthy. His tail looks to have been broken at some point near the last 1/4 of it. He can't roll the last two inches. I have no idea how old he is. He's approx 16 inches long. He's eating well and his stool looks fine. Let me know what you think it is. Thanks.

it's a burn
Thank you. It looked strange to me how it was angled and even on both sides. Glad to know he doesn't have something really wrong with him. I'm guessing it'll stay like that. I'm ok with that. I'm glad he's not in that horrible set up any more. But I also realise that by taking him home it just means some other poor cham will eventually take up residence there.

It should have some kind of treatment to prevent it from getting a secondary fungal or bacterial infection while it heals. Many vets prescribe silvadine ointment for burns.

Alphonse does not like to be handled in the least. I have not attempted to handle him since he came home 3 days ago. He will hiss and strike if I attempt to handle him. There's no telling when the burn occurred as the people at the pet store were clueless about it. Surely it's been a week now.

Do you think the stress of taking him to the vet and applying the ointment would do more harm than good?
