Carpets dropping eggs in cage

I received Crystal and Jade 12/14. I posted pics of them here...anyway, when I received them they were both individually packaged in a plastic container. Well, today when I went to check on them and spray their cages...I found 4, count them 4, of the littlest, whitest eggs on the bottom of the cage. Yes, I had a laying container in the cage but she didn't care to use it.

How could this be? She would have to have been with a male before she came to me, a day or two I got her. Why isn't she laying in the bin?

I was reading where carpets are known for just dropping their eggs anywhere, but my veileds are so predictable with their egg laying. Anyone have a comment or two?
 
Thank you for that! I was worried. I don't have a clue when she was inseminated since it has been 31 days since we received them, but I don't think they are infertiles. The are really white and plump.

I hear 9 - 12 months for carpets? Longer then veileds? I put the eggs in a container like I do my veileds. I think she might have more, she still looks plump. ( I say with eyes that now know what is going on. ) LMAO

I had 1 egg hatch at 6 months 13 days , then the rest have been going for 10 months now. :D

You want to try and incubate them at cool temps . 68-72 if you can.
 
All my females just dropped their eggs, with or without a laying bin. Like Ryan said re incubating temps. I had one hatchling at 6 mos. and 6 days, one a month later and one a couple weeks after that. Other than that, still waiting on the rest of the clutch that is at about 10.5 mos. and another clutch that is around 9 mos. (no hatching from that one yet).
 
Just to take a contrary position (I'm good at that right? :p), all of my F. lateralis major females always deposited their eggs in a lay bin. In fact, they didn't seem fussy as to what kind or how big the container was - they would use the small potted plant in their cage if need be.

Also a properly kept major female will lay eggs like clockwork; you can set your watch by it. They cycle every 6 to 8 weeks so hearing that your newly acquired WC female dropped some eggs isn't surprising to me. Except for the fact that she's dropping them instead of laying them.

My incubation times were usually averaged 11 months.

With lat lat... I wish I had that same result it can be rather frustrating. I tried having a plant in the laying bin a big laying bin , small one , no luck at all. I do know dooley1 has luck with them laying in the bins.

I have only dealt with about 6 clutches so I am no pro
 
They can drop eggs, but it rarely happens for me anymore. Be persistent with a laying bin and they almost always use it. Don't count on them using one in the cage. If you know when they're due, remove them from the cage & place them in a laying bin. Some like a plant in there, & some don't seem to care. Each female is different. I use 5 gallon buckets.

Nice Kevin! LOL. Good news is it seems a fairly normal occurance, bad news is she only "dropped" 4 eggs. I hope she drops more tomorrow. Good news is I now know for sure she is a female!
 
I'm not surprised she only dropped 4 eggs. She should have more...even a clutch from retained sperm probably wouldn't be that small. Sometimes "droppers" will wait a day or two before dropping the rest. Now is the time to offer her the bin to dig in. I wouldn't worry. I've never had a single female lat die egg bound.

when it comes to breeding, lat majors and l.lateralis are very different indeed.in my opinion the majors are bullet proof and you would have to be very unlucky for them to scatter eggs as they will lay absolutely anywhere with no issues at all.
lateralis on the other hand are very finicky with laying and prove much more differcult to get to lay.they are renound for scattering but deal with egg retension much better than most other species.
this scattring of eggs is something that drives me insane trying to figure out and it is my goal to figure out why.
to me, lateralis seem closer in body shape and behaviour to f.minor than f.major and the minors too are known for scattering eggs although they do not deal with it as good as lats and have a much higher mortality rate during egg laying.

I now have 10 eggs. Seems like she drops in the morning. I can't get her to dig a hole, but at least I am looking out for the eggs and put them in the laying bin before they get dried out and stuck to something.
 
That's good. As long as they held up ok they should hatch just the same as eggs that were laid in a nest. Just remember....constant 68-70F for the duration. Could be 7 months...could be 12. Could all hatch at once, or spread out a bit. Good luck! I love my carpets...even if I do have too many of them right now, haha.
