Thats it! I have to get a pair of carpets! What size cage do you use for these if you dont mind me asking? I've read Kevin's (dooley1) article. Just curious about practicing breeders and their opinions. Question is for you gegeland or TPM.
thanks

I said the same thing after seeing just a few pictures of them! I need one! I am hoping to get a male soon to pair with my female.

The article you referred in your post is basically what I go by for the most part for their care.
In the article the author states that "A cage with the dimensions 18" W X 16" D X 24" H will suffice." I currently house my female in a 12" x 12" x 18" height cage. So a little smaller than what the article recommends, but I believe she has truly flourished in this size cage. However, I have just recently purchased a larger Exo-Terra terrarium model and will move her into that and see how she does. I plan to do something similar to what Chris Anderson does with his montanes and other select chameleons that he described in this article For Everyone who KNOWS you can't keep chams in glass The winters in Wisconsin get cold, and the air gets extremely dry, so I thought I might try keeping her in a more controlled environment.

Feel free to ask me more questions, and make sure you do research as always.:)

Thanks so much gege for the pics. I have only seen mine flash those pastels a cpl of times. She's mostly just a nice lime green with dark green barring. She will occas display some nice pastels on her face. I will put up some pics of her, my camera is at home. Im currently at work.

I keep my pair in seperate screen cages. The size i use is 16x16x30. I agree esp with the females you can go smaller but I like as big a cage as they can comfortably handle and find food/hunt in. My male is very active and uses most of his cage when not basking. The female tends to stay at the top of the cage in her scheff most of the day at the edge of her basking light. Both love to drink alot. And you will need a heavily planted cage.

Fantastic pictures of her Garret!! I'm happy that she is doing so well for you! :D

Scott,

They look beautiful! I always love to see pics of my kids later on-ha. Someone recently mailed me pics of a female they bought off of me six months ago who just laid her first clutch. I was jealous because she looked nicer than some of the ones I kept for myself!

Also to Garrett...your female is beautiful, and I happen to have 2 males right now that could pair up with your female if you are looking. They have each just hit sexual maturity. Brad Ramsey was babysitting them in Denver for the past couple months and they just made their way back to me in Pennsylvania :)

As far as receptive coloration goes...the hell with it. Just put them together and if the female lets him breed, she's receptive! Haha. They can be very ambiguous in regards to coloration and don't always follow the rules. I will introduce females regardless of their coloration (except for obvious black/white gravid coloration) and see if they let the male approach.

My article is VERY outdated. I have learned a lot since then through trial and error. It definitely needs to be updated. The entire incubation section should be thrown out. The care is the same though.

Oh yes, and one more comment to Garrett. The smaller cage working for your female doesn't surprise me. The longer you keep chameleons, you more you know when you can cut corners and when you can't. I kept them in bigger and smaller cages than what the rule is. As long as they do OK, it doesn't really matter.

I'm curious to see how the exo-terra work for them. I haven't dissected the post Chris wrote about them, but I'm just wondering about drainage. Carpets need lots of water rather than lots of humidity. Where does it all go? I have indoor misters during the cold months, when my animals aren't outside...The exo-terras would probably look much more attractive than cages!

Hey Kevin sorry I keep referring everyone to you and the outdated article you did a while ago. But hey you are my expert!!:D

Both of my carpets have moved to their adult cages. They are 18x18 x30, hey have their mist kings and heavily planted cages and seem very content. I enjoy them a lot.

I think i may have to move mine to smaller cages for the time being. As Ive run out of room and I have something coming next week. Its a suprise for now but I will post pics as soon as they arrive. :p:cool:
