Carpet Chameleon Knowledge

Hello my name is Holly and I'm new to this website. I just LOVE chameleons and right now I have a male Jackson and a female Veiled. My veiled is mean so I'm going to be trading her for either a flapneck or a carpet.. I will know the answer to which 1 on Monday. I was calling around to ask about the Carpet Chameleons so I called LLLReptile. Well the lady told me that this chameleon needed heat all night and day and it needs low humidity and that the basking area should be around 90 degrees! She also told me that for night times it needs to be around high 70's low 80's?! I'm not feeling like this is correct info because when I looked this species up online it said high 70's low 80's and at night the temps can get down to high 60's low 70's and this chameleon would be fine.. please anyone with knowledge on this help meeeeeeeee!

Thank you so much!

Holly :)

Welcome to the forum!

I treat mine like I treat my panthers, which means a basking spot of about 85*F, the ambient temp being about 75*F, and letting it drop at night. I've never heard of any chameleon needing it to be warm during the night unless it's a sick individual (or maybe baby chameleons), but not any species that comes to mind. Carpets have a wide range in Madagascar so they tolerate a wide range of conditions, so with misting you may be able to get away with a wide range of combinations. Like I said earlier, I treat them basically like I would my panthers and they get LOTS of misting throughout the day, and the humidity stays at around 50-60% when not misting.

That's what I do, but if you would like more detailed, more expert opinions I'd send a message to member Dooley1 on here, who is considered the carpet master. Dez also knows plenty about these guys. Both those members will help you out in private message if they don't see this thread.

They are gorgeous little chameleons, I highly recommend them!

Welcome, and awesome name! Carpets are incredibly beautiful, I'll be following your progress for sure, I saw one at an expo with incredibky beautiful peacock butterfly markings.

Yes i have been messaging Dooley, he replied 1 time but not since, he must be a busy guy :p but i really do want to purchase 1, my collection will be complete when i have a carpet and a flap neck. Those are the 2 i've always wanted since i got my Jackson chameleon :) thanks for all the help! anyone else that wants to add in on this thread are more than welcome! :D
