i have a male yemen and looking into gettin a female for breeding do you house the female in her own viv ??

Yes you house them seperately.
You dont actualy use breeding setups, like a breeding cage what you normaly do is just transport the female into the males cage.
How old is your male?

hes 3 years old and ill house the female in her own viv and how long would i leave the female in the males viv ??

3 years, was he ever bred before?
You leave her in until she is gravid and unreceptive, like hissing at him going black with blue and orange spots.
You should only breed the female when she is a year old if she is bred younger her health and calcium content will deplete and she can develope mbd, or die.

I never mate a female veiled until she is at least a year old.

To mate them I hold the female outside the male's cage so they can see each other. I watch for the reactions.

If the male inflates his body, takes on his bright colors, head bobs to her but DOES NOT hold his front foot up, hiss or gape then he is recognizing her as a female that is receptive.

If she hisses, gapes, sways back and forth and darkens the background color to almost black, etc. then she is non-receptive....and should NOT be put in with the male.

If the female remains calm, keeps her usual green colors, move slowly away from the male she is receptive...and can be put in with the male....but watch them for a bit to see that things remain good.

Once they are getting along okay, they can be left together until the female starts to reject the male by darkening her background colors to almost black, hissing, gaping, swaying back and forth, lunging at the male, etc....at which time she should be put back into her own cage.

Thanks

i dont have a female yet but when i get 1 she will be over a year anyways but thanks for the good advice !

I didn't catch it above, but you also want to make sure she has a laying bin ready at the bottom of her cage. It is a permanent fixture in my females cages, but I guess you could call it a breeding setup.

I use half organic potting soil, and half sanitized kids playsand. I fill a 5 gal plant pot half way, and conceal it with plants so that she can feel secure when she's in there.
