Never ever ever feed a chameleon meal worms. Crickets, Dubias, Superworms, waxworms, hornworms are all good feeders for Chameleons. Wax worms are high in fat however so try to only feed those as treats. Good rule of thumb is to not feed your chameleon anything longer then the width of their eyes.

Rule of thumb is for the width. We'd all be feeding baby superworms to our adult chameleons if it was by the length haha.

Also the mealworms thing is a bit overblown. I wouldn't recommend feeding them versus superworms, but it's not going to cause impaction anymore than most other insects would.

100% correct! I've been biting my tongue, but from a technical standpoint mealworms have the same impaction risk as any other insect with a chitinous exoskeleton. Even then, impaction is only likely to occur in animals with a poorly lubricated GI tract, such as what you'd see in an dehydrated animal, or those with insufficient basking temperatures. With correct husbandry, this is a complete non issue.

However, due to the low nutritional value alone I'd still strictly limit/skip over mealworms. They're perfectly fine as a treat - just not as a staple!
