The point of baking is to drive out moisture and cure them so they don't rot and also kill microorganisms. Boiling may sterilize but it's not going to drive out moisture. Apple should be fine, as long as there is no lose bark your chams can accidentally ingest.

I have baked things, and Chappy hit it on the head. I wouldn't bake it, unless you are intending on it just being branches?

Then I say baking them would be best, just so they last longer. Maybe cut the branches and leave them out to dry, and once they're dry on the inside, you can bake them to completely dry the inside, and to kill anything that is in/on the branch.

Yeah don't boil them; I would think they would just fall apart. Bake em 250 for 30 min to an hour.

Thanks for the directions. I was looking for some. They said not to do it in a gas oven and to bake it for 20hours. that seemed too long.
