Can I paint the cage?

I just got a new cage in the mail for my panther, and I was wondering if it would be safe for me to spray paint it? Has anyone done this before? I wanna make sure it would be safe for my cham. I would let it dry and air out before I put him in there of course.

Enamels give off fumes for quite some time after painting. Acrylics are much safer but most metallic paints are enamels, as far as I know. One possibility might be powder coating,if money's no object, plating it.

Personally I think a cage is a cham's home, not a fashion accessory,but I will leave that choice for you to decide.
