Can Chams contract RINGWORM?

So I just realized I have ringworm.

I work at an animal hospital so there is a high probability I picked it up there. However I have been handling my panther, and even though I always wash my hands before handling I'm worried I could have contaminated her.

Anyone know if this is a zoonotic fungus?

While some animals can contract ringworm, just based on searching, reptiles are not among them.

Actually, i had a wc male panther in 1996 that i took to a vet, they removed ringworm from his back..you could actually see it move under his skin......otherwise..thats the only one ive ever seen with it...

Maybe there is more than one kind of ringworm? What I know as ringworm is not a parasite, it's a fungus that has the shape of a ring. It does not move.

That sounds more like some sort of parasitic worm, ringworm as contracted by people isn't actually a worm, but a fungus, I'm pretty sure it's just called ringworm because it displays as a raised circle that people back in the day thought was a worm

Yup, you can cure ringworm with athletes food medicine. My brother got it as a kid from a indoor jungle gym place. Yummy fungus!!

ya know...thats what i thought..its more a fungus grown in a "sing" thus the name, not like a "hookworm" witch actually is a worm and burrows into the skin...the vet told me it was a ringworm..but then again i was pretty young..maybe he was just giving me a general...but i swear they said " it seemed like he liked it when we took the ringworm out of his skin"?? now im confused....wth..well i did "smoke" alot when i was young..but i swaer they said it was a ring worm..it had to have been more like a hookworm..parasitic....???anyway..i want to hear more about this..and if it wasent a ringworm..witch i remember thinking..what?really?/....well what the hell was it they removed..anyone else have wc that had vet treatment for visible parasites??

"Ringworm" is a misnomer because it is actually a dermatophyte, or fungus that grows on the skin, not a worm at all. Parasitic worms are certainly possible under the skin, but that is not "ringworm". Usually a filarial worm. Haven't seen it in person but have seen quite a few pictures of filarial worms removed from under the skin of wc chams. Dr. Alfonso had some of those in his last batch of wc chams we was rehabbing - you can read about it on his blog.

Reptiles don't get dermatophytes (ringworm) because the fungus grows in the hair shaft, which doesn't exist in reptiles.

Ringworm can be zoonotic to other mammals depending on the type, so any cats, dogs or farm animals that you've come in contact with may be able to get it.

seee..i knew that , iknew that it was a fungus....what the hell did they remove from him(i was a young kid like 17..i didnt know to ask questions or say, "but isint ringworm a fungus??") it had to have been a type of parasitic hookworm, or madagasgan equvilent...
