Im picking up a new viv for my cham tonight and need to transfer everything over, so my quistion is..... How long is safe to leave the cham out of his viv

Put him on a tree and keep a close eye on him. He will be fine for hours. Jann

Chameleons spend up to 24 hours in a box when shipped. So an hour or two that you may need to set up the new enclosure won't be an issue. If you feel your cham might get a little cold while waiting for its new enclosure, you may want to put a heat lamp close to where he will be.
