A female jacksons I rescued off craigslist has abrubtly declined in health. I have had her since november of last year. Her enclosure is a 4ftX2ft rectangle that is 4ft tall, so she has quite alot of space. However she was owned by a younger kid, and the dad put her on craigslist because the kid got tired of caring for her. I suspect that he lied about her age as she doubled in size as soon as I started feeding her as much as she wanted everyday. (He said she only needed 2-3 crickets a day) Under my care she gets freechoice of crickets, waxworms, and the occasional super worm. As well as wild caught insects when possible. He also informed me that she had recently had a clutch of six babies that all died under his care.
So my question is, would the care of her previous owner possibly be the cause of this setback as well as the fact that she might be alot older than previously believed?
Her symptoms include pale chalky skin, loss of dexterity and grip, loss of desire to eat, very lethargic, sleeping during the day.
I noticed blood in her mouth that alerted me to a small scratch in her mouth under her tongue. Possibly from one of the larger crickets she usually enjoys?
She went downhill very quickly from there. Even though under my care the cut has healed, she still seems very sick. There is a large dark patch of discoloration on her side, which looks like a bruise, but I dont believe it is.
I have done quite a bit of researching on her symptoms and a vitamin (A)deficiency seems like it could be the base cause, as that could weaken her immune system considerably, and make her vulnerable to other illnesses. This winter has been rough as well, with no nice days to allow her to be outside in the natural sun. If anyone has any further knowledge of these symptoms or advice for treatment it would be greatly appreciated!
