Calcium without D3 and where to get it

Hi guys. I want to properly take care of my chameleon, and know from my experience with my bearded dragons, that my calcium with d3 won't do every day (or will it?). I have looked all over town even prior to owning a chameleon, and it is just not stocked.

I spoke to an older gentleman who worked at Petsmart and he said I should be able to get straight calcium from a compounding pharmacy, where they do the mixing.

What I'd like to know is if that grade is properly concentrated for chameleons. What the pharmacist wanted to know, was if I needed heavy or light.

I have the Rep-Cal, and its analysis is min 35% max 40% calcium, and D3 min 400,000 UI/Kg.

I have the matching multivitamin as well, but I never mix them because of the d3.

Some advice please? I'd like to avoid online links because ordering with credit cards is needlessly expensive for me, so I really would like to solve it in town with cash, any way possible.

I really don't think I need links. If I had the money to waste on pay as you go credit card fees, I would have bought some on ebay a year ago.

Calcium without D3 is rarely stocked in local pet stores, that's why many order it online to get it.

EDIT: We provided links to HELP you -_-

Had no idea that you did not need a link. Try goin to a pet store and get some "cuttlebone". This is calcium for birds. You will need to grind it up with a coffee grinder or something else that will make it into powder. Hope this helps.

Dont know about that(pharmacy one)
Your just gonna have to call them and find out.....

You could send a bank check to LLL.....should be free of charges if its your bank......just a thought......

I'm actually not even sure what to suggest for the pharmacy grade. You only have to dust lightly so I don't know if perhaps you need heavy? I really wouldn't know.

We have a memeber on here that is an expert on nutrition, Sandrachameleon. See if you can send her a message about your question, I think she might be able to help with that bit.

I asked at the local non-chain pet store, and they are actually ordering some calcium without D3 soon, so I'll be checking in there every time I buy crickets, hopeful I can catch it :) For the time being I am just dusting every few days with my usual calcium.

Orange is really only for providing water (and some vitamins of course). Gutloading needs to be better for healthy Chameleons, check out the link I posted above for a very good start........

What about a local health food store or a store like GNC(don't know if you have those near you though) You may find something there that you can use.

that ingredient list is really daunting. I don't know where to start. my boyfriend brought home this chameleon but everytime I tell him something new about it, he thinks I'm taking the internet too seriously. where do I start with that :/

As far as gutloading, you can always order premade dry stuff like Cricket Crack, for example, instead of going and making your own, and then stick to getting fresh fruits and veggies. And then if you want in the future start to mix and match ingredients to make your own dry mix.

Well, as of today I rustled up everything I have in the house and gave them a selection. They have their orange cube, their gel (because I have always given them both) some bok choy, and some cricket mix that I assume is mostly bran. I don't know what else. I was going to give them matchstick carrots too but I forgot. Stuff I keep around for beardies.

Look better?
