Calcium with D3 vs. sunlight

I have a 6 month and a year and a half old nosy be. I stopped dusting with calcium d3 and started to take them outside as often as possible. I just wanted to get some opinions on exposing your chameleon to pure sunlight in comparison to dusting with D3. I usually take my chameleon outside as often as possible but some times the weather is bad. How often is it necessary to expose your chameleon to the sunlight when you do not dust with D3? Also can it be harmful to stop dusting with D3 a couple days before you start the sunlight exposure?

d3 is what helps them process calcium . natural sunlight is the best think for them. i would keep exposing him to natural sunlight and when you do this do like every 3 days dust or once a week cause they can get d3 and stuff from the sun itself.

If they are getting a couple of hours of natural, unfiltered sunlight each day, then their is no need to dust with D3.
It only takes them a few hours in natural sunlight for them to produce D3 in their own body's metabolic reactions.
If they are getting a few or several hours a week, then I would only dust 1 or 2 feeders a month.
D3 in large quantities can kill your chameleons.
It calcifies body parts.

I totally agree...

BIG question now is what is you supplementation schedule like now?

Currently I am dusting with only Rep-cal brand. 4 days a week with Rep-cal calcium, once every 2 weeks with rep-cal multivitamins, and 3 days a week with no dusting. I currently am gutloading with Fluker's cricket quencher and feed.Any suggestions?

I think you can dust with Calcium more often that twice a month. Especially for your younger Cham. Depending on you chams Diet. I think that you could dust with Ca 2 to 3 times per week. Just to supplement any short fall. If you should see any white residue or powder around the nostrils back off on you Ca Sup. You should check up on the Ca Freq a little more as I am not sure about this.

If your Chams are spending decent amounts of time in the sun, you probably can stop your D3 immediately. Even if you the weather is over cast or rainy they will get some UVB so just make sure they are not getting pounded by rain or strong winds.

My chams are out side just out of direct sunlight. I will supplement D3 with Ca about 1x/mos if I remember. Other wise I think they will be fine with out the D3 and I am just being to overly cautious.

Hope that helps
